Digital Pen – Technology
The digital pen has been developed by the Swedish company Anoto. It is a ballpoint pen with extended functions. These are an integrated digital camera, a processor with memory and a Bluetooth transmitter unit.
As soon as you use the digital pen with a sheet of paper that contains the Anoto dot pattern, the writing is automatically saved on the pen and converted into digital data.
In order to be able to use the technical possibilities of the digital pen, the required forms (e.g. timesheet, work order and delivery note) are additionally printed in the background with a special dot pattern. You will receive the necessary templates from us.
This printed pattern consists of many tiny, hardly visible dots. Using the pattern, the pen can determine the position on the paper at any time and with the help of these coordinates it records the user’s stroke movement via the integrated camera.
You can either print out the forms yourself on a colour laser printer, or they can be produced in a print shop using offset or digital printing processes.
The written and digitised pen data can be transmitted from the pen for further processing in two ways:
- Bluetooth: If you make a hook with the pen on the paper into a special “send box”, all data of the pen will automatically be sent to the authenticated Bluetooth receiver.
- USB: As soon as you insert the pen into a docking station on your PC, the data is automatically transferred to the PC and is available there for further processing.
The information written with the digital pen is transferred to the central EasyPen server for data preparation after transmission, either via mobile phone or directly via a docking station. There, the previously handwritten form is prepared as a PDF, and optionally the data is converted using a sophisticated handwriting recognition system.
The entire data transfer route is SSL encrypted and guarantees the necessary security. Besides the pure pen data, it is possible to expand the system with any input device (e.g. a blood glucose meter, a motion detector, etc.), either via Bluetooth or infrared.
